After a 25-year-career as one of Australia's best-selling international pop stars, Kylie Minogue is reportedly quitting the music industry to focus on acting.

The 44-year-old has also parted ways with the man credited with propelling her international stardom, her long-term manager Terry Blamey, just weeks after Minogue herself publicly attributed much of her success to him.

Britain's The Sunday Mirror is reporting the split is amid claims the performer had become upset over "tensions between Terry and her dad", Ron Minogue, an accountant who has been an influential adviser on Minogue's financial affairs since she began performing as a child.

Blamey has confirmed the planned switch to acting and the split with Kylie but denied any bad blood between the two.

"As we reach this fork in the road after a wonderful 25 years working together, we do so amicably, wishing each other nothing but the very best for each other's continued success," Blamey told Fairfax Media in a text from London.

The UK paper claimed a source close to the star said yesterday the decision was stunning: "Kylie's decision to stop recording for the time being and part company with Terry has come as a massive shock. Ever since she broke into the charts in the '80s, Terry has been the man behind the scenes.

But now Kylie is saying she wants to pull back from the pressures that come with a music career."

Minogue and Blamey were still working together at the recent New Year's Eve celebrations in Sydney where she was the creative ambassador for the annual fireworks display. The Sunday Mirror claims the former Neighbours star who has not had much success in the field since the 1980s, now wants to focus on acting.

In November she gave an emotional speech in London when Blamey was recognised at the British music industry's Artist and Manager Awards.

"We started off in 1987 when I had what resembled a poodle perm. Who didn't? And as you might not know Terry sported a very fetching mullet. I didn't drink coffee, now I don't turn up for work without my coffee, and Terry didn't drink alcohol - it was that long ago. He would order a cappuccino and I would scoop the foam off the top," she said.

"We started to travel the world, in the pointy end of the plane. Terry read computer magazines and I used to think he was crazy. 'What are you reading computer magazines for? Computers are for nerds." - I checked my iPad, my iPhone, my laptop, everything this morning.

"Then we thought we hit the big time when Terry got his mobile brick - I mean mobile phone, which is older than some of the people here today.

"Twenty-five years later you can only imagine how much we've been through together: The highs, lows and plateaus, the good the bad and the ugly. But throughout it all Terry's commitment, support and guidance has remained constant."
