Recording her first album is a dream come true for New Zealand Got Talent winner Clara van Wel.

"Everything I ever imagined in the shower, and in front of the mirror is suddenly being realised," the 15-year said when Stuff visited her in the studio.

"We started off just having a massive jam session and working out which songs we are going to use, and what we were going to use in terms of musicians in the songs and then layer by layer we built up from drums to bass, to piano, to guitar and now I am just doing the vocals which is fun," she described the recording process.

The singer-songwriter was at times surprised how her own songs turned out in the studio. "I like them all for different reasons. It's still a work in progress, things are still happening and I am still getting surprised by little changes."

The teenager's first single Where Do You Find Love, released in December, reached No 3 in the New Zealand charts.

Her yet unnamed debut album will be released in March. In the meantime van Wel is joining Fat Freddy's Drop, AnikaBoh&Hollie and The Adults (feat. Jon Toogood and Julia Deans) on the 17 date Winery Tour that starts on February 2 at Ascension Wine Estate in Matakana and finishes on March 3 at Mystery Creek in Hamilton.
