Six60 to conquer Europe
Six60 has signed a European-wide deal and are moving to Europe.
Signed out of Germany through the Sony label Columbia Four Music, the group relocates to Europe in May to support the release of their self-titled debut album.
It comes on the back of a successful year which saw Six60 notch up five hit singles, quadruple platinum album sales and six New Zealand Music Awards.
Volker Mietke, director of artists and repertoire for Four Music, describes the group as a ''one of a kind''.
''Six60 is a one of a kind band with a remarkable sound and a unique frontman and singer. This is how a rock band should sound in 2013. The band fills a blank on our artist roster and we are proud to give Six60 a new home in Europe.''
Six60 frontman Matiu Walters said he and the band are excited about working on a new album and building on their European fan-base.
Next month the band returns to the United States for the SxSW Festival in Austin, Texas, a worldwide showcase which this year features Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the Flaming Lips, Vampire Weekend, Thurston Moore on the lineup.
Six60 will then perform in Toronto as part of Canadian Music Week and do sideshows in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.
But before heading off to Europe the group will perform their ''last shows in Australasia'' for a while, road testing new songs as well as playing crowd favourites.
