Ray Columbus' widow shares public funeral plans

Ray Columbus' widow has spoken for the first time after her husband's death, and shared plans for a public funeral.

After a four-year battle with ill health, Columbus died on Tuesday at the age of 74, at his home north of Auckland.

Linda, Columbus's wife of 25 years, has said in a statement that her husband died peacefully in her arms at their Snells Beach home at 11.45am.

"I held him in my arms all afternoon and celebrated his life with a bottle of champagne," Linda said.

The statement said Linda, a great protector of her husband's privacy during the years of his illness, was surprised but pleased by the huge outpouring of support and coverage in the media.

"Ray would have been very proud at the response to his death."

A public funeral for the She's a Mod singer is planned at St Patricks Cathedral on Wyndham St in central Auckland, on Saturday, December 3, at 11am.
