Pixies announce NZ tour dates
After an almost seven-year absence, Pixies are spreading their wings and heading back to New Zealand.
The American alternative rockers have announced three NZ shows for 2017, their first trip back since performing to sold-out crowds in Auckland and Christchurch in 2010.
The four-piece will play Christchurch's Horncastle Arena on March 9, Wellington's TSB Arena on March 10, and Auckland's Vector Arena the following night.
The gigs are part of their Head Carrier world tour, based on their latest album of the same name, which prompted Fairfax music writer Grant Smithies to write, "Oh, Yes! Welcome back, Pixies."
Set lists from recent UK shows have shifted between the old and new material, from their 1987 debut to tracks from the new album.
The tour sees bassist Paz Lenchatin officially join Pixies' members Black Francis (vocalist/guitarist), drummer David Lovering and guitarist Joey Santiago.
Lenchantin has been the band's touring bassist since January 2014 and also recorded for Head Carrier.
Tickets to their New Zealand shows go on pre-sale at midday on December 2, with My Live Nation member pre-sales commencing at midday on December 5.
General public tickets go on sale December 6 at 2pm, see Livenation.co.nz for full ticket information.
