After selling out their first show within minutes Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have added a second Auckland date.

The new show will take place at Mt Smart Stadium on Sunday March 2 with tickets going on sale next Monday.

The original Auckland show was set to be the end of the tour, but demand has been so great, Springsteen and the E Street Band have agreed to extend their stay for one extra night, Chairman of The Frontier Touring Company Michael Gudinski said.

He also acknowledged the passion of Christchurch fans who had lobbied to bring the Boss to the South Island.

"Regrettably however on this particular tour a Christchurch show isn't logistically possible within the time frame available," he said.

Springsteen last toured New Zealand in 2003 when he played to 50,000 fans at Western Springs.
