Lorde may well be the most famous New Zealander on the planet right now, but she also happens to be close friends with someone whose celebrity eclipses even hers - Taylor Swift.

And while the Kiwi singer is certainly no stranger to the trappings of fame, in an extensive interview with The Guardian Lorde has revealed that being friends with Swift takes things to a whole new level.

"It's like having a friend with very specific allergies," she says, referring to the difficulties of maintaining a friendship with someone as famous as Swift.

Also quizzed on her own fame, in particular during 2013 and 2014 when her debut single Royals charted around the world, Lorde was asked to imagine what it might have been like to be someone else following her meteoric rise online and on TV.

"I think I would have been annoyed by me," she replied. "This kid - this very self-assured 16 year old, who seemed to think she knew everything. Writhing around on TV with bad, kind of broken movements. Wearing these weird clothes."
