Big Day Out ticketholders will have to wait a bit longer to find out what act is going to replace Blur at the event in January.

Earlier this week Big Day Out director AJ Maddah told Twitter followers to expect the replacement to be named today, but he has since returned to the Twittersphere to delay the announcement.

When asked on Twitter, ''What time do we find out about the band  for the big day out?'' Maddah replied: ''As soon as I am satisfied we  have adequate paperwork and contracts. May not happen today due to  Thanksgiving in The US.''

The new act was required after Blur pulled out of the event on Sunday saying they could not reach agreement with the concert organisers.

They announced their withdrawal on their Facebook page saying: "Only 8 weeks to go, the band feels that with the constantly shifting goalposts and challenging conditions of the organisers, they can't let it drag on any longer and want to make this announcement, to be clear to Blur fans that they won't be there."

Pending Blur's replacement the headlining acts for Big Day Out 2014 are Pearl Jam and Snoop Lion.
