Aussie rockers Jet, indie electronica act Passion Pit and warped crooner Devendra Banhart are the highlights of the second Big Day Out announcement.

The second addition of bands, confirmed today, also includes the Simian Mobile Disco DJs, Sasha, Jet, Midnight Youth, Head Like a Hole, Beenie Man, The Veils, Deja Voodoo, Kidz in Space, Cairo Knife Fight, Mountaineater, The True Lovers, Tim Phinn, Bandicoot and Lord of Tigers.

Jet have just released their third album Shaka Rock, and are known for their blistering live shows.

Passion Pit have received plenty of hype this year, thanks to their mix of warped indie electronica and front man Michael Angelakos' catchy falsetto.

They join Kasabian, Dizzee Rascal, Muse, Lily Allen, The Mars Volta, Rise Against, Girl Talk, Mastodon, The Horrors and Groove Armada on the bill.

The Big Day Out will be held at Mt Smart Stadium on Friday, January 15.

I'm going, and its going to be awesome. I was already stoked from the first announcement. Muse, Kasabian, Mars Volta, Groove Armada, Temper Trap, Kora, Dizzee Rascal. Already wow. And now SMD, Passion Pit, and JET!! ... It's gonna be one hell of a day

2nd announcement had a few good bands . . . but Soundwave does look a lot better.

I agree with all those who say yawn, boring and all of the above. I'm sure all the Russell Brand look alikes will be pleased with the lineup. Good news for the retail stores as sales of drain pipe jeans and flannel shirts are about to go through the roof.

Muse are incredible live. Trust me guys, the will blow you away when they close the concert with Knights of Cydonia. I'm hoping they'll have the epic harmonica intro like they did at V Festival in Chelmsford. Kasabian are really good live too, the opened for Oasis as Wembley a few months back. They're dubbed the biggest band in Britain at the moment, and Muse are arguably the biggest and most spectacular act in the world. Plus they actually live up to these titles. And I'm keen for a bit of a dance with Calvin Harris and Dizzee Rascal, and now Jet have joined the line up...it isn't that bad at all. Really looking forward to it.

What a surprise - an article about BDO followed by a heap of people whinging and moaning. I'm sure the many thousands of people who go will still have a good time regardless.

Its amazing what Facebook can do to society these days. If you want Soundwave to come to NZ do something about it! http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=59766018200&ref=mf

Btw, i was really hoping for The Pogues for BDO :(

what happened?   #44   06:31 pm Nov 11 2009

What happened to the days when the BDO had 2 or 3 huge acts and some awesome up and comers? Now they're just like TV, playing repeats everyone's seen a million times already or crap no-one's ever heard of or wants to see. Muse are great but they were here not that long ago. Mastodon could be worth a look. Everyone else is a snoozefest. Get a classic huge stadium-filling act like Metallica or the Chili Peppers or Aerosmith (oh no..wait, can't get them). At least I'm off to Pearl Jam, Faith no More and ACDC. All much better on their own than the BDO line-up

Hi   #43   06:06 pm Nov 11 2009

THIS IS THE BEST LINE UP EVER.

Who cares if they have been before? At least they love New Zealand and want to come back! That should tell you stupid people something!

Get over it.
