Industrial metal act Fear Factory have joined the line-up for the Big Day Out in the third and final announcement made today.

Also joining the Auckland music festival, held on January 15 at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland, will be hip-hop act Dead Prez, X-rated rapper Blowfly, DJ Chuchchu, Poirier, MC Zulu, Conchord Dawn, Evil, House of Shem, The Drab Doo Riffs, Open Souls, Tainted, Dick 'Magik' Johnson, Magik, Elston Gun, O'Lovely, Valedictions, Mile High, Nick D, Batucada Sound Machine, Tahuna Breaks, Farmer Pimp and The Turnaround.

Fear Factory last performed at the Big Day Out in 2004, and cancelled a New Zealand show in August this year because of "recording commitments".

Beenie Man was announced in the second line-up announcement last month, but was pulled two weeks later after an outcry over the Jamaican reggae star's lyrics.

I dont think this is the worst line-up ever. I think last years appealed less than this BDO.

At the end of the day, its a great opportunity to soak up some good music and the great fesival atmosphere.

Yes, its not the same as the earlier BDOs where stars came out like Hole, Marilyn Manson, Deftones etc. Its a new generation of music thats coming through that needs an opportunity to be heard...its never going to be the same BDO - thats what time and new movements bring.

@ NZOnAirConspiracy, honestly you need to relax mate. Whats with this hating on Uni students about? Not all of us were or are spoilt brats...whats your definition of a 'spoilt brat' anyway?

Hearing Self Bias Resistor would be worth the price of admission alone! I do prefer the original era FF but also like Archetype and Transgression. With these guys plus Mastodon - I don't want to miss this one. Still, not as good as '99 (still my favourite BDO)

NZOnAirConspiracy #17 - Yea, because people who go to university and get massive debts are spoilt. The music is like this because this is a mainstream festival and these are the bands that the majority of people like. Realistically, BDO cares very little about what the people of New Zealand think; these are the most popular bands in Australia.

This is the worst Big Day Out ever! The organinsers should hang their heads in shame. I suppose we are, after all, in a recession so it must have been decided to get a whole bunch of budget acts to come all the way to the Antipodes - some of which seem to be regular "features" of the dribble we call Bid Day Out now - Muse is an example. I can't wait to read the angry responses from all the Muse fans that think they're innovative and "the best live act in the world right now". Tired! Tired! Tired!

totally lame   #19   02:26 pm Dec 09 2009

seriously, lamest big day out ever. would only go for the NZ bands and they will be all on the small stages.

FF are the only reason I will be going. Yay.

You can never ever expect to see decent acts in this country, where they think that crap artists like Bic'n'Bo Runga are great, Autozamm and Midnight Youth are rock and Scribe is a World Class Hip Hop act.

Thanks to NZ On Air, all we shall ever be served up here is rubbish that they think is cool with University spoiled brats.

Fear Factory are the best band in the whole lineup but still not enough to make me go this year.
