Big Day Out 2010
Nutritionist Jacquie Dale delivers her tips for a bigger, better, healthier Big Day Out.
If you want to make the most of the day this year follow my simple three-step BDO survival plan - just think BDO before you walk out the door with just your ticket in your hand.
B is for breakfast; skip this important meal and you'll be running on empty all day. You have to fuel up for the event. Have a supersized bowl of porridge with fruit and a protein shake, throw in a multivitamin and not only will you be able to out-dance all your friends, you'll help balance out any rubbish that will be consumed later on.
D stands for dehydration, which is to be avoided at all costs. You don't want to be taxied home in an ambulance so don't turn up drunk. I've checked on the website and you can take an unopened bottle of water through the gates, so make sure it's one of those big ones, not a mini-bottle.
Take extra money to buy more water while you're there. O stands for oranges; you're allowed to take fruit in with you and oranges are the perfect snack.
The Big Day Out can be a test of endurance and too many high-salt snacks will dehydrate you further.
Throw some fruit in your bag because it's going to be a long day. If you follow my advice you'll thank me later - it's a big day and you'll be burning lots of carbs.
The body doesn't run very efficiently on alcohol and chips, especially without breakfast.
