Gin Wigmore and the Cardinals rocked The Powerstation but the crowd took a while to warm up. Reviewer Tracey Bond was there.
Gin Wigmore
Where: The Powerstation, Auckland
When: Saturday, November 28
Gin Wigmore narrowly avoided a wardrobe malfunction at The Powertation in Auckland.
Arriving on stage beneath a backdrop of hundreds of pink lights she took her jacket off to reveal a tiny mesh bodysuit and jeans - and promptly had to hike the top up to avoid revealing a little too much to the audience.
But from the opening chords of Hey Ho this was a supremely confident Gin Wigmore who beamed at the audience between songs and seemed genuinely thrilled to be on stage.
Originally from Auckland it was like a homecoming of sorts for the singer.
"You guys are amazing, this is so cool," she said as she worked her way effortlessly through songs of her debut album Holy Smoke.
Live Wigmore's vocals are just as rich and powerful as they are on her album and paring her with the ever-professional and polished Cardinals was a genius idea.
There was also a chance for Wigmore to demonstrate her considerable musical talent playing the guitar on songs and then the ukelele on I Do.
The audience seemed to be in some sort of a trance. They clearly loved her and there were massive cheers between songs but it took them until her final song of the set Under My Skin to actually start dancing.
By the time she came back for the encore the crowd realised they didn't want her to leave.
The Powerstation was her last New Zealand date on this tour, she moves onto Australia next to mesmerise the other side of the ditch.

The reviewer must have left to soon because after Under My Skin she played Oh My and then Lucy Loo and she finished the show with Mr Freakshow. I sang and danced my way through every song she played. Gin started the show with Hey Ho, New Revolution, Son't Stop, SOS, Dying Day,Golden Ship, One Last look, Too Late For Lovers, Hallelujah, I Do, These Roses, Under My Skin, Oh My, Lucy Loo and finished with Mr Freakshow. I waited the whole year to see her play and I can't wait for the BDO and to see her again.
Awesome concert, absolutely mesmerising. Can't rave about it enough!!

Gin's show was superb! Her thousand watt smile and rousing spirit rocked the house. The Cardinals were hot as. An absolutely brilliant performance!
This was an amazing show. I have seen the Black eyed Peas, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake and I would say this is right up there with them! She sounded just like the CD and will definitely go far. She's a wicked Kiwi chick who is going to make us proud!

Absolutely loved Gin's show! She drew a great and diverse crowd with people in our vicinity having driven from many parts of the North Island to be there. I didnt see any wardrobe malfunction, she did fiddle with her bra strap at one point, but id be nervous about my outfit too if I were onstage infront of a packed crowd! Awesome performer, massively enjoyable night :-)
She was absolutely amazing, you described it well we were all in a trance!. Ill be buying her album and seeing her again!
