(Bureau B/Yellow Eye)
My first real awakening to the sonic power of music came in 1971 when I chanced upon an import copy of Can's Tago Mago.
It bewildered and beguiled me in such an inexplicable way that I became obsessed with the very un-PC (nowadays) "krautrock" movement that gave rise to Tangerine Dream's sequencer epic Phaedra, Amon Duull, Faust, Hans Jochim Roedelius, Ash Ra Temple, Popul Vuh and then Kraftwerk.
The Hamburg based label Bureau B has been steadily re-issuing some of the classics of the genre as well as unleashing a new generation of like-minded experimentalists.
Like all good samplers Katalog 1 is the ideal way to wet your toes in a past you might have missed and a future you might find challenging.
