The Cirque du Soleil has arrived in Auckland for its Totem show - illustrating the evolutionary progress of human species through athleticism, comedy and beauty.

The trademark blue-and-yellow big top tent, sitting more than 2600 people, was raised today at Alexandra Park. It stands 19 metres high and is 51 metres in diameter. 550 pegs are required to hold the big top firmly to 48,500 square feet of asphalt. 

Totem opens in Auckland on August 22 and is performed through to September 28, 2014.
