There won't be a threesome after all.

Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement has scotched reports he and co-star Bret McKenzie are working on a third series for US network HBO.

Clement had given an interview with The Guardian Australia this week in which he appeared to let slip that HBO had commissioned a new four-episode show.

However, the next day he took to Twitter to douse fans' hopes.

"Before this rumour gets out of hand - we are not working on a 4 ep Conchords show for hbo...

"I am working on another idea with them though, hence the mix-up."

 

Flight of the Conchords ran for two seasons following its 2007 debut before it was cancelled in 2009.

The show about a folk-rock band trying to make it big in New York City was nominated for 10 Emmys during its brief lifetime.
