Winslet thrilled by Pearce's speech
Kate Winslet insists she was "thrilled" by Guy Pearce's outrageous Emmy Awards acceptance speech.
Kate and Guy both won prizes at the prestigious ceremony last night, for their performances in HBO drama Mildred Pierce. Guy caused a stir when he collected his Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries award, paying tribute to his steamy love scenes with Kate.
"I got to have sex with Kate Winslet many, many times," he said. "[Thank you] for letting me insert myself into your world of Mildred Pierce... I didn't realise it was going to result in this."
While other stars may have been embarrassed by the comments, Kate has revealed she was highly amused.
The British actress divulged she has always had a soft spot for Guy.
"No, I was thrilled," Kate revealed backstage at the ceremony. "I've had a crush on Guy since I was 11 years old!"
Kate also claims she was shocked to be named Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries.
She dedicated the award to her mother, later admitting she hadn't planned an acceptance speech.
"I was extremely unprepared, I didn't think I was going to win at all," she explained. "I'm so thrilled to have won this. It just comes out the way it comes out. There's not much you can really do about it."
After leaving the stage, Guy admitted he wasn't sure what his wife would make of his comments. He also revealed that while shooting love scenes can be uncomfortable, he thoroughly enjoyed working with Kate.
"I'm not sure, I haven't asked her," he replied when asked what his wife would think of his speech. "She probably thought it was funny. We'll see."
"Because it was Kate, yes, we had a good time," he added about the sex scenes. "They're nerve-wracking to do, but she made them fun."
Kate famously gushed about Leonardo DiCaprio's kissing skills when they made Titanic together.
Guy has joked he is keen to find out how he compared to Leonardo.
"No, she hasn't. I keep asking her, but she refuses to tell me," he added when asked if Kate has said he is a better kisser than Leonardo.
"So there is obviously some bad news there. She might tell me later if I get her drunk enough."
