Hilary Barry offers sneak peak into upcoming Oprah interview
Hilary Barry has spoken about the interview she conducted with American talkshow queen Oprah Winfrey, ahead of its screening at the end of this month.
Barry flew to Los Angeles in October to interview Winfrey. At the time, Barry tweeted a photograph of the pair, with the caption: "Truly humbled to have spent time this afternoon talking with Oprah Winfrey. Can't wait to show her around NZ!"
Now, Barry has revealed further details of the experience.
TV3 reported Barry was initially intimidated by the prospect.
"It was a little bit terrifying to be honest, but the moment you meet Oprah you become consumed by her warmth and generosity of spirit. She is very much the person she is on screen – captivating and highly entertaining."
Barry said Oprah told her of the moment she realised her family was poor.
"She described a Christmas where her mother told the children there would be no gifts.
"What happened next was something that has shaped Oprah's attitude to giving."
When Hilary Met Oprah will screen on November 30 at 7pm on TV3. It will be simulcast on RadioLIVE from 7pm.
