Kiwi actress Kate Elliott's 'perfect wedding'
Kiwi actress Kate Elliott plays an aviation legend in Jean later this month, but first, she's jet-setted to LA to say her "I Do's".
The former Shortland Street actress spoke to Woman's Day this week about eloping to Los Angeles to marry fiance David Benge, 37.
The two were wed in an intimate, eight-guest ceremony in LA's Echo Park, inspired by the wedding in the film The Godfather and Pricilla Presley's wedding to Elvis, Elliott revealed to the magazine.
The 34-year-old wore a short, white shift dress for the big day, complete with a short veil with doily flower detailing and deep red, strappy heels from Charlotte Olympia to match her bouquet.
The couple opted to elope in LA because it "sounded like fun, like an adventure", Elliott told Woman's Day.
"I didn't want to have a big wedding and I love to get out of New Zealand as much as possible.
"So we were like, 'Why don't we go and elope in Los Angeles and have a honeymoon too?"
The couple, who have been together for three years years, fell in love at a New York film festival.
They now have a "blended" family with Elliott's daughter Dee Dee, 7, and Benge's daughter Hunter, 4.
"It's always a challenge, it's never easy, but we try to make it as fun as we possibly can," Elliott says.
"But they get on like a house on fire, so that helps a lot."
Jean will air as a TV One Sunday Theatre production on Sunday, October 23.
