John Oliver tears PM Bill English to shreds
It's all on now.
John Oliver has gotten wind of New Zealand Prime Minister Bill English's claim last week that the US TV host "isn't very funny" - and he's torn English to shreds because of it.
Describing English as "the very poorest man's Daniel Craig" - almost a compliment, that - Oliver went on to mock an "indescribably lame" exercise video the PM recently put on Facebook, as well as his now infamous spaghetti pizza post.
"Careful Bill," Oliver cautioned English on his attempt at shade-throwing. "Because when it comes to Kiwis, Johnny don't play."
And the British-born comedian certainly wasn't playing. "Bill English must know that the moment he mentioned my name, I was going to immediately find the stupidest, most humiliating things about him that I could," said Oliver.
The five-minute Last Week Tonight segment ended with a sketch depicting "a series of terrible pizzas that New Zealand Prime Minister Bill English would probably enjoy".
Said pizzas included one topped with "skittles, baking soda and condoms" and another topped with "blueberries, onions and a printed-out copy of the Wikipedia entry for pizza".
Oliver is no stranger to New Zealand and its politics, having devoted a number of skits to former Prime Minister John Key, the flag debate, and finance minister Steven Joyce's "dildogate".
