Game Of Thrones Pop Up coming to Sky: Here's 10 things you might not know about the series

Just in case you missed it ... Sky is launching a Game Of Thrones Pop Up channel to tide fans over until season seven of the show starts on SoHo on July 17.

The channel will be available to all subscribers from July 1 with a new season of the fantasy drama added daily. To mark the event, TV Guide has come up with some little-known facts about the world's biggest TV show.

1. Kit Harington had to lie to his castmates about Jon Snow's fate. Some actors were not fooled, but Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) wrote him a long farewell letter.

2. Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton) auditioned for the part of Jon Snow. He got down to the final two before losing out to Kit Harington.

3. In 2014, Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh visited the set of Game Of Thrones in Belfast, but the Queen declined to sit on the Iron Throne. According to show creator David Benioff, the Queen is not allowed to sit on a foreign throne, even a fictional one.

4. Sophie Turner (Sansa) adopted the dog who played her direwolf Lady.

5. Dothraki is a real language. Programme makers HBO worked with linguist David J Peterson to create the dialect which has more than 3000 words.

6. Dubbed 'The Doctor Dolittle' of Northern Ireland's film industry, farmer Kenny Gracey breeds rare livestock especially for Game Of Thrones. He began breeding Iron Age pigs – a cross between a wild boar and a domestic pig – when he was facing ruin after the 2008 credit crunch.

7. So far, there are 14 actors in Game Of Thrones who have also had roles in Harry Potter films.

8. Reportedly, George R.R. Martin was so pleased with Jack Gleeson's performance as the much-hated Joffrey Lannister, he sent him a letter saying, "Congratulations on your marvellous performance, everyone hates you."

9. Jason Momoa performed the haka 'Ka Mate' in his audition for the role of Khal Drogo.

10. Daenerys is described in the books as having violet eyes, but the contact lenses Emilia Clarke wore early on in the series affected her performance and were abandoned.
