Modern Family gay couple Mitch and Cam have given a shout-out to New Zealand in a new video campaigning for marriage equality.

The stars of the American sitcom, played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, were in Australia to shoot an episode of the show, but also took the time to participate in a video lamenting how their characters would not be allowed to get married there.

"You know where it is legal? New Zealand," Ferguson says.

"Well, New Zealand's just right over here," Stonestreet says, pointing across the ocean.

The pair then plan their move across the Ditch, pondering whether it will be better to swim or take a boat.

The video was released by the advocacy group Australian Marriage Equality.
