Jesse Mulligan uncouples from Seven Sharp

Comedian Jessie Mulligan is set to leave Seven Sharp at the end of the week.

TV presenter Jesse Mulligan  is leaving TV One’s Seven Sharp on Thursday and will not be replaced, TVNZ says.

 Mulligan has been on the programme since it started  in February 2013.

"I’m sad but excited to announce that Seven Sharp and I will be going through a conscious uncoupling at the end of the week,’’ Mulligan said, referencing the recent split by Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her Coldplay husband Chris Martin. 

‘‘Like Chris and Gwyneth we will remain friends, wish each other the best and try not to send each other drunken texts when we get lonely," Mulligan said.

It was time to get back to his comedy roots.

"Jesse has brought a unique brand of humour to Seven Sharp and will be missed by the team. The show has hit its stride this year, and we owe Jesse a debt of gratitude for helping us develop it to this point," TVNZ head of news and current affairs John Gillespie said.

Mulligan will continue to host Best Bits, Thursday nights on TV One.
