Seeing the report on Columbo prompted me to think of Blackpool, which I have just finished watching again.

Blackpool is a six-part mini series with lead actors David Morrissey, Sarah Parish and a pre-Dr Who David Tennant.

Tennant apparently based his detective character on Columbo.

Blackpool is sort of a murder mystery and sort of a bizarre lip-synched musical, perhaps in the mode of The Singing Detective.

It features great acting and is seriously well written. Blackpool's not perfect by any means but definitely worth a look.

Blackpool repeats air on UKTV from time to time, and it's also available on DVD.
