An award-winning Home and Away star has been disciplined after being caught up in a sex tape scandal.

Lincoln Lewis, the son of league legend Wally who plays Geoff Campbell on the hit Australian soap, admitted filming a sex tape with a teenage TV starlet and showing the footage to his castmates.

It was reported the act was filmed on a cellphone and has since been deleted.

The Daily Telegraph reported Lewis, 21, had been disciplined and forced to undergo counselling.

Lewis said he regretted the incident.

"You do stupid things when you are young. But your learn from your mistakes, that's part of growing up.

"This mistake, and what I have learnt, will contribute a lot to making me a better person in the future."

Australian television network Channel 7 stood by Lewis.

"As soon as Channel 7 was made aware of these allegations we needed to urgently clarify fact from fiction," programming director Tim Worner said.

"Lincoln is a young man of tremendous character. He acknowledges and can accept and take responsibility when he has made a mistake and regrets the event which transpired over a year ago."

Lewis won a Logie award for best new male talent last year.
