Outrageous Fortune star Grant Bowler has joined the cast of True Blood, alongside fellow Kiwi Anna Paquin.
Bowler, the New Zealand-born actor who plays rugged westie Wolfgang West on Outrageous Fortune, has signed up for the third season of HBO's hit vampire show.
Bowler, who has also starred on Lost and Ugly Betty, will play werewolf Coot - the menacing ringleader of a biker gang, alongside Paquin's waitress, Sookie Stackhouse.
The show, which screens on Prime in New Zealand, has also signed up-and-coming actor Theo Alexander.
He will play Talbot, an "intensely beautiful" vampire, the boyfriend of Russell Edgington (Denis O'Hare), the vampire king of Mississippi. Talbot has an acerbic sense of humor and loves to cook despite vampires' inherent lack of cooking talent.
Alexander and Bowler join Prison Break's Marshall Allman, who was recently cast as a regular, playing Sam's long-lost younger brother.
Production on the True Blood's third season started on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Hey, I've got a good idea...
Perhaps another 50 people can tell Rory that he should read the article properly. And if you can finish off by saying "It's not hard" that would be wicked.
@ Madge
Seriously, you should be proud. That's an awesome achievement.
This article needs tweaking!! Warewolf or Vampire??? I hope he gets the right script to read before production! My Lord!!!
@ROry
Actually it says Theo Alexander is playing the vampire. Seriously. Re-read it. Its not that hard.
@ the whingers The series are loosely based on the corresponding books. Stop whinging about werewolves and maenads.
@ Stuff. Anna Paquin is Canadian and Grant Bowler considers himself to be an Aussie - he moved there at a very young age.
@Rory #22 Read the article properly. Seriously, it's not hard. Awesome news, can't wait to see him in it!! and congrats Madge, you must be so proud!
Rory #22 Grant IS playing a werewolf....Theo Alexander is playing the Vampire. Instead of making inaccurate, misguided remarks, I suggest you read the articles a little more carefully in future. Seriously. Its not hard.
PS. If you don't like the Stuff website, don't use it!!!
@Rory 22
Do you know how to read?
The article STATES CLEARLY that Bowler is playing a werewolf (3rd paragraph) it then STATES that another actor, Theo Alexander, will play a vampire (4th and 5th paragraphs). Seriously, learn to read, it's not hard (notice the correct use of an apostrophe in a contraction).
I think you guys will find that he's actually Australian. Poorly researched AND poorly written.

Anna Paquin at least grew up in the Hutt Valley, where she was "found". She was a kiwi when she got picked for "The Piano".
The only comment I would add to those flaming Rory is that it is pretty damned hard to proof read. Comments like his are an insult to proofers and editors everywhere.
How many people posting comments here are without error?
Yeah - so proofing and editing staff are paid to do just that, but it really is a lot harder than ignorant people believe.
With regard to quality of television, it might be me getting older, but the quality of US television has improved remarkably. I now almost prefer watching US television to British.
