Ricky Gervais says David Brent will make a guest appearance on the US version of The Office.

Speaking to The Sun, Gervais confirmed his iconic character from the British version of the hitcom comedy show would be making a trip to America to meet Steve Carrell's Michael Scott.

"I think it would be funny for David Brent to walk into the US Office and hear them go 'Oh my God, there's two of them'," he said.

"We don't need to know about Brent's back story - the English office exists in a cocoon. Michael Scott could just bump into Brent who is a bloke from England."

An air date for the episode is yet to be announced.

The British version of The Office, penned by Gervais and Steven Merchent, lasted for 12 episodes and one special.

The American version is up to its sixth season.

Gervais is over-rated. He's an average writer, that's why he couldn't stretch his version out to more than 12 epidsodes. The US version is far superior, probably due to the huge team of writers although it has been lacking a bit in season 6. This will probably be the nail in the coffin for me.

I love the UK office and the US office! Ricky Gervais and Steve Carrell are both hysterical. I can’t wait for Ricky Gervais to make an appearance on the US office.

I have to say I love the American version. While it lacked the UK version's uniqueness and awkward timing, it proved itself to be a solid standalone. Watch "Gay Witchhunt" if you need proof. Anyways, I love Ricky Gervais, and I love both versions of the Office. I personally am excited for this mini-crossover, if you want to call it that.

Yes, the Uk version is far superior, the US one did have a few good season (2-4), but like most US series, haven't known when to stop.

this will certainly be an episode to watch :)

however, the conclusion to your article is hogwash.. the UK office didn't "last" 12 episodes, it was pulled by Gervais because he likes to go out at the top of his game. he did it for The Office, as well as Extras.

despite the implication, 2 seasons of the UK Office will always be far superior than 6 seasons of an american copy.

Love the uk office but can't see this not being cringeworthy

The British Office was really funny. The American Office is not.

Quote: "The British version of The Office, penned by Gervais and Steven Merchent, lasted for 12 episodes and one special. The American version is up to its sixth season." - doesn't mean a thing - they made 6 Police Academy films didn't they?
