Joely Richardson is to have a steamy lesbian romp with Portia de Rossi in the new series of hip plastic surgery drama Nip/Tuck.

The British actress will bed openly gay Portia in the upcoming series of the hit US plastic surgery drama, after her character Julia McNamara falls for the mother of a boob job patient, played by the former Ally McBeal star.

The pair's scenes so far are said to be so explicit that even crew members used to the series' frequent sexual storylines have been shocked.

An on set source said: "Portia's character is going to be involved in a torrid relationship with Joely's character over about 10 episodes.

"It's going to be shocking stuff. So far, the pair's sex scenes have been wild. Even the crew have been shocked by what they have seen."

Despite sending pulses racing with her lesbian antics with Portia, Joely has no intention of watching the same sex scenes.

She said: "I make a point of never watching myself. Even if it's just a standard scene, I can't watch. And nude scenes I never want to see."

In real life, Portia, 34, is involved in a long-term relationship with US chat show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Joely briefly quit the show last year to care for her sick teenage daughter Daisy.

Daisy - Joely's child with her ex-husband Tim Bevan - had to undergo surgery for a rare medical condition, which she was diagnosed with at birth, which makes her veins less efficient at circulating blood to the heart.

After a short break the 42-year-old actress returned to the series - which also stars Julian McMahon.
