A New Zealand digital television collaboration has been nominated for an Emmy Award.

The nomination for Reservoir Hill - by KHF Media, Television New Zealand and New Zealand On Air - is a first for a New Zealand show in the International Digital Emmy Awards.

Reservoir Hill is up against Cross Media Experimental Project: HK File.X (Hong Kong), Inside Hana's Suitcase (Canada), The Space Trainees (Finland) and The Well (United Kingdom) in the Children and Young People category of the awards.

International Academy of Television, Arts and Sciences president Bruce Paisner said the 2010 nominees showcased global excellence in programming on digital platforms.

"We congratulate them for their outstanding achievements," Paisner said.

Reservoir Hill is an interactive online drama created, produced and directed by Thomas Robins and David Stubbs, of Wellington's KHF Media.

In an interview late last year, the pair described Reservoir Hill as being "as dark as Twilight and as bitchy as Gossip Girl".

Today, they said they were thrilled with the nomination.

"We're thrilled for the team here at KHF Media, the cast, crew and writing team who worked tirelessly on a project we were all proud of.

"It's also awesome for TVNZ and NZ On Air who backed the unusual and innovative project. We're stoked."

Reservoir Hill starred 18-year-old Beth Chote as Beth Connolly, a 16-year-old who moved from the rural back-blocks to the city. It was filmed in and around Porirua's Aotea block.

Text messaging and social networking, via Bebo, drove the eight-episode TVNZ OnDemand show. Beth referenced the text in her online video blog, and the advice then influenced the following episode.

The awards ceremony is on April 12.
