Lea Michele says singing feels like "jumping out of a plane".

The 24-year-old actress plays wannabe star Rachel Berry in US show Glee, about a group of singing high school misfits. She is known for her powerful voice and even though she has been performing on Broadway since she was a child, Lea still finds singing "terrifying".

"It feels like you’re jumping out of a plane. Terrifying but incredibly invigorating at the exact same time," Lea told the October issue of the US edition of Glamour magazine.

Lea went to her first audition when she was eight years old and says her parents were convinced she would never make it because she "couldn’t sing". Despite this, they encouraged Lea to pursue her dreams and are still stunned it all worked out.

"I think they are incredibly proud and still in shock," Lea said. "Because it’s everything that we kind of dreamed of. When I was a little kid, my mother and I used to watch the Golden Globes and I would dress up and she would get sparkling apple cider and we would make a tray of hors d’oeuvres and watch it together. And I would get up and make a pretend speech."

Lea has been linked to several of her Glee co-stars since the show started but she is currently dating Broadway actor Theo Stockman. There have been rumours she has a crush on Glee’s Cory Monteith in recent months, but Lea vehemently denies them.

"No, I don’t have a crush on Cory! Rachel has a massive crush on him. He’s like my brother," she said. "The cast, they are my family, honestly. I don’t have family in LA. If I didn’t have them… I love my cast."
