He was part of Ten's Breakfast project, which went terribly wrong. Now Dr Andrew Rochford has declared he was thoroughly disappointed about what happened with the show, saying that it became "unworkable".

He has politely laid the blame squarely at the feet of co-presenter Paul Henry.

"There are a lot of people with theories about what went wrong. My personal theory is somebody who was publicised for pointing out the white elephant in the room became the white elephant in the room," Rochford said.

The trio on air - Rochford, Henry and Kathryn Robinson - did not jell. Rochford said they tried to work with Henry as best they could.

"Look, he was himself. And everybody else tried to be themselves and make a show that added something to the morning," he said.

Rochford said he tried everything to make the show work, before quitting his role five months before the show was cancelled in November.

"From the beginning when I knew I was going to be part of this, I took it very seriously," Rochford said.

"I was thoroughly disappointed that it didn't go the way I'd hoped or thought would potentially be the best direction for that show. But when I saw how things were playing themselves out, I was a big boy and decided (to leave).

"You can dig your heels in as much as you like, but you can only do so much. It was unworkable."

When asked whether he knew where Henry was now, Rochford said: "I'm assuming he's probably gone back to New Zealand... or he might be enjoying something here in Australia, I don't know."

Rochford is taking on a new guest role on Ten's Friday night lifestyle show The Living Room as a presenter on health and medical issues.

He will also continue as an occasional presenter on The Project. But it's clear he would love to return to breakfast television if given the chance.

"I'd love the opportunity to do that again, no matter where it is," he said.

"Live TV, the broad variety of stuff that gets covered in the mornings, that's what excites me, that's where I'd always hoped my career would end up. The disappointing thing is I don't think the potential for the opportunity was ever fulfilled."
