Survivor contestant Danny Brown has denied quitting the top-rating reality show, but admits he was ready to leave after hitting rock bottom.

Brown, who also goes by the nickname "GC", appeared to have given up when he was voted out of last night's episode of Survivor: Gabon, telling his Fang tribe mates to eliminate him because he was "done".

But the 26-year-old maintenance man from Oregan told Stuff.co.nz that he didn't quit - but he was ready to leave Africa.

"I think at the end a couple of people voted for me because I wanted to go, and a couple of people voted for me because they didn't want me there," Brown said.

"At that time I felt like I was ready to go, but I don't really look at it as quitting."

Brown, who caused controversy by resigning as Fang's leader after just one day, said he regretted letting the lack of food, the challenge losses and his warring tribe mates wear him down.

"(I wished) I didn't feel the way I did at the end. I wished I didn't let everything get to me the way it did. But you know what? It was something I would never have even imagined that I would do in my life.

"Survivor is one of my favourite shows. To be a part of it is something that's really important to me.

"As crazy as it seems, I'd do it again."

Brown, who almost missed an immunity challenge after taking off in a fishing boat, denied doing a runner on his tribe.

"I went to this little fishing spot I had. I was going to catch us a nice little feast before our challenge and I was pushing it pretty close. If I hadn't have heard them calling I wouldn't have got back in time."

Brown accused the show's editors of cutting out many of the good things he did on the show.

"I feel like they edited it in a way that would make it exciting for people to see. That might mean that some of the parts I wish were on there were edited out. But overall it's still a good show and I think people are happy with it so far.

"I just wish people had seen more of the good things I did rather than the bad."

He said his personal highlight was getting to see an elephant in the wild.

"That was really something I have looked forward to my whole life. Going to Africa was something I always wanted to do to see animals in their natural habitat, in the wild, without fences or zoos. Like they're in you're back yard."

And he said the hardest part of Survivor was the lack of food.

"I'm a little nature boy, man. Ever since I was little I used to go running around in the desert looking for snakes and stuff. I was expecting to see a whole bunch of animals out there.

"I was surprised to see how little there was for us to survive on. We had rice and I was eating as many grasshoppers as I could possibly find.

"They don't taste very good .. but they taste better than nothing."

He picked Jessica "Sugar" Kiper to win because of her Immunity Idol, saying it was her "key to $1 million".

Survivor: Gabon screens at 7.30pm on TV3 on Thursday nights. Stuff.co.nz will exclusively interview every contestant as they are eliminated.

In reponse to #4 and #5.

Totally agree with you Mat, each week I am amazed at the people who post negative feedback to this site! If you don't have nice things to say don't say it at all!!

These reality show people are not stars. And it erks me that the media turn them into stars.

Rick   #6   05:26 pm Jan 28 2009

Wow.

A negitive comment...

and on the internet of all places..

Mat   #5   05:26 pm Jan 28 2009

I can't believe that people who say they don't like the show still come on and place a negative comment about it. Get off the internet.

Will   #4   05:26 pm Jan 28 2009

I can't believe people still watch this show. Get off the couch.

Yes GC was the right person to go as he was dragging the team down in challenges and at camp. Fang will actually be stronger without him and should be able to work together a bit better. The whole tribe including Sugar and Ace know that everyone knows that Sugar has the hidden idol. I think Matty told Ace they weren't going to blindside Sugar and we saw in nect week's shorts that Matty and Ace come to some sort of deal.

I think GC was the right person to go but they should have at least tried to flush out the idol (talk is cheap). Even telling sugar they are going to vote for her and ensuring GC got voted off with split votes would have been a better outcome.

No he shouldn't. As useless as GC was the smart thing would have been to blindside Sugar.
