Timaru has had its third day of high air pollution this year.

The health guideline was exceeded yesterday with a 24-hour average concentration of 52 micrograms of suspended particulate per cubic metre of air, measured at the air-monitoring site in Anzac Square.

Air pollution on May 16 and May 3 also exceeded the health guideline of 50mcg.

By this date last year, Environment Canterbury had recorded two days of high pollution in the Timaru airshed.

In earlier years, one to nine days of high pollution had been recorded by this date.
