The Japanese car Tokai Challenger has won the World Solar Challenge, the race from Darwin to Adelaide for cars powered by the sun.
Organisers said the Tokai University car stormed across the official finish, in Adelaide's north, at 3.39pm (CDT) on Wednesday, four days after leaving Darwin.
The car's average speed was still to be calculated but was thought to be about 100kmh.
The team said its car was cruising at 106kmh at various times over the 3000km race route.
Its nearest rivals were reported to be more than two hours behind and were not expected to finish until Thursday morning.
At one stage on Wednesday, only four minutes separated second placed Nuna V from the Nuon Solar Team and Infinium from the University of Michigan.
