Key to miss Copenhagen meeting

Prime Minister John Key says the international climate change meeting in Copenhagen next month is unlikely to result in a binding treaty.

He stood by his decision not to attend the meeting.

He said a recent breakfast meeting in Singapore involving United States President Barack Obama and other world powers suggested there was little chance a legally binding treaty would be signed in Copenhagen.

"It doesn't mean there won't be progress made - I think there will be progress."

There had been hopes leaders at the Copenhagen meeting, from December 7-18, would agree on a figure for reducing emissions.
