Boat leaks oil in harbour
An oil leak from a fishing boat in Lyttelton Harbour has been stopped after 150 litres of diesel leaked from the vessel.
The Ocean Breeze is the same boat that caught fire when it was in the dry-dock in August.
Harbourmaster and Environment Canterbury regional on-scene commander Jim Dilley said the oil had either evaporated or had been soaked up using absorbent pads and a boom.
Bird life in the area was being monitored, but none had been found with adverse effects, Dilley said.
Divers were not able to find the pin sized leak in the Ocean Breeze, but the diesel had been pumped from the fuel tank stopping the leak, Dilley said.
The leak was found earlier today coming from the Ocean Breeze, which was at the commercial wharfs of the inner harbour.
After being repaired in the dry dock, the boat had been put back in the water and was floating alongside the wharf preparing to leave when the leak occurred.
