A passionate Auckland chocolate maker has a new treat guaranteed to kick-start male libidos on Valentine's Day.
Chocolatier Dr Hanna Frederick has created Tomcat Alley, a groundbreaking "chocolate couture" creation which boasts aphrodisiac properties for men.
Dr Frederick, who worked as a food scientist before becoming a chocolate maker, said her latest offering contained a potent herb called Tongkat Ali.
"Tongkat Ali has been used for centuries by men in Southeast Asia to increase sexual desire, libido and enhance overall performance."
She said the effect of the herb takes three days to achieve optimum levels, making them "just perfect for the long weekend".
"We looked everywhere for just the right herb, the right recipes and the right flavours. We didn’t see anyone else doing this," said Frederick.
Apart from the "active" ingredient, the chocolates contain pure Belgian hazelnut-flavoured gianduia chocolate.
"If you’re wondering how to express your desire for your man, the answer is simple. Just say it with chocolate," she said.
Dr Frederick warned that while her latest treats offer men an amorous boost, they shouldn’t be treated as a substitute for erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.
"This is just a bit of passionate fun - a provocative gift a woman can buy her man this Valentine’s Day," she said.
This is not the first time Dr Frederick has dabbled with innovative chocolate flavours.
Last year, she hit international food headlines when she created two world firsts: a beer-flavoured chocolate for a beer-brewing convention, and a deer velvet chocolate for a meat industry dinner.
