Wellington bars among the best

Wellington has been confirmed as a capital place for a cocktail, with two of the city's nightspots voted among the best bars in the world.
Motel on Forresters Lane and Matterhorn on Cuba St took out 7th and 12th place respectively in the annual survey released by Australian Bartender magazine today.
The two establishments were the only New Zealand bars to make the top 20 in the Asia-Pacific region.
Tokyo bar High Five claimed the number one spot, with three other bars from the Japanese capital making the cut.
Other hot spots that made the list with two winning bars were Brisbane and Shanghai, while Bali, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul and Beijing each slipped one venue into the Top 20.
Australian Bartender publisher David Spanton said this year's Asia-Pacific Top 20 "reflects their diverse experience".
At the 2008 NZ Bartender magazine bar awards, Matterhorn won Bar of the Year for the third consecutive year while Motel won Cocktail Bar of the Year.

I knew it, that there would be at least one that made an immediate comparison to Auckland.
@#1, I don't know if you've ever visited (or, more pertinently, left) Motel or Matterhorn, but the only way you could "get clobbered from behind" is if someone walking behind you down the stairs (in Motel's case) or down the hallway (in Matterhorn's) did the clobbering. And you'd presumably know they're there from hearing their footsteps, if not seeing them walk out with you.
Do you have a significant lack of trust in the people you go drinking with? So much so that you're seriously concerned that they might assault you? If so, I suggest you find new friends or better medication.
Get in you good thing!
I love Motel and Matterhorn - two of my favourite bars anywhere. As a new-ish Sydneysider I'm amazed that Bayswater Brasserie made #2. Average service, drinks are nothing special & generally a waste of time. What was the criteria I wonder? Zeta @ the Hilton, Hugo's, Jimmy Liks, Loft, Lotus... all fantastic but didn't get a look in... although I think I just realised I drink too much!
Thats nothing to be proud of - all it means is Wellignton has a lot of tossers who would frequent places like that. The same sort of people who are pretentious around coffee and havent eaten a meat pie in years. Witness the fall of a once proud culture.
Why go to Aucks as its just a hole go Welly!!!! YEAHA bring on the night on Wellington!
Why is the article incorrect? What other bars in Brisbane are better than all the bars in Asia-Pacific?
god who cares... these sorts of bars really are the pinnacle of snobbery and crass consumption... paying $24 for some minimum wage twit to swoon around mixing you up a drink because its the done thing..
Dark & Violence
This is Wellington NOT Christchurch.
#2, why does that surprise you? Melbourne is one of the worlds biggest cities and rated as one of the best places to live. Seems only fitting they have some great drinking spots.

Tall poppy much? We've been told we have two of the best bars and we're complaining about snobbery, violence and culture change. First off, big ups guys, you've done us proud. Secondly if culture didn't change Obama wouldn't be president, women wouldn't have the vote and we'd probably still be in caves
