Despite the economic downturn men still attract a good price.
Twenty one bachelors were up for grabs to raise money for the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust at AMI Stadium on Thursday evening.
Students, professional athletes, company directors and politicians were all for sale – though only for one dinner apiece.
The auction made more than $20,000 for the trust.
Emily Steele was one of a group of friends who bought two bachelors.
She will be going out for dinner with bachelor Simon Craigie for $1200.
"I knew Simon for a long time so I knew what I was buying," she said.
Anna Worrill, 22, successfully bid $1400 for Aaron Pero, a company director.
She was happy with her purchase.
"It was a lot of fun," she said.
Christchurch City Councillor Yani Johanson showed every politician has his price, going for $600.
He said, "I was bought by a great person and it's such a good cause."
Christine Jefferies bought Johanson and said she got a "bit of a bargain" for a city councillor.
"It was a fun night and I decided not to stay in the stand," Jefferies said.
Company director and National Party Canterbury Westland regional chairman Roger Bridge commanded the highest price at $3000.
Donna Brady, 29, said she was extremely happy with her successful bid to get personal trainer Marcus White for $1400. "First appearances, I have to say he was the cream of the crop."
Organiser Cilla Glasson said the event made around $50,000.
"It was a brilliant night. The bachelors probably raised around a thousand dollars each, [with prices from] $400 to $3000."
As well as men there was a selection of other auction items including a Tim Wilson painting which went for $13,000.
The winning bidders will go out on a dinner date with their bachelor in the coming weeks.
