Prime Minister John Key has joined Hollywood star Hugh Jackman in a video a cancer patient made for his wife.
Key appears in the introduction of the emotional clip Sydney man Kristian Anderson, 35, made for his wife Rachel's birthday.
Kristian has been undergoing chemotherapy since he was diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer in October last year.
He decided to make the video to thank Rachel for her invaluable support during his illness, and convinced Key and Jackman to record messages for it.
Mr Key was invited as a tribute to Rachel's Kiwi roots.
"Hi Rachel, it's John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand here," he says.
"I just wanted to wish you a very happy birthday and tell you that Kristian loves you. He's so appreciative of all your support. We wish you a very happy birthday.
"I just had mine a few days ago and so I know what it's like to get a year older. You feel a lot wiser."
Kristian himself doesn't speak in the clip, instead holding up signs with messages on them.
"I'll never give up (so please don't give up on me)," one reads, while another placard says: "Without you... Life just doesn't work. I need you like I need a cure for cancer".
Jackman got involved after Kristian called Australian radio station Triple M to ask for help.
The presenter called Jackman, who was only too happy to oblige.
"He loves you Rachel ... he loves you," Jackman says in his short cameo in the video.
The clip also features Kristian and Rachel's sons Cody, three, and 12-month-old Jakob.
Kristian posted the finished video on his blog.

Amazing! Good luck in your fight
LOWKEY #57 Kelly's comment is related to the story because the story is about John Key's appearance in the video, hence the headline '...John Key help cancer patient' and the first sentence 'Prime Minister John Key has joined Hollywood star Hugh Jackman in a video a cancer patient made for his wife'. If the story was simply about this beautiful tribute to Kristian's wife, it wouldn't even have to mention it. John Key's a busy man - he wouldn't have bothered if he didn't think there was good publicity in it for him. Give that man a Women's Weekly cover!... oh wait... that's been done.

@ Jac- nice way of putting it :)
@ Kelly - not the right forum to vent love, but I do get what you are saying.
This did make me well up a bit, beautiful thing to do for someone especially if you are uncertain about your future. He will get the Husband of the year award!
Passion.....not politics "happy bithday Rachel"
Beautiful & touching, I wish you all the best....you truly deserve it. (for those interested song is "Marry Me" by Train from their album "save me,San Francisco")
Stuff why are you letting people post on this story? Again another bad call in your tacky record, add this decision to your MJ coverage from a year ago. Poor form.
So Kelly, if John Key had refused to do the video, would you have then said he was a bad person for refusing such a request? He can't win.

Its a pleasure to watch this vid. I think, Kristian had made his point by showing his love not only for his wife, Racheal, but also his family (and offcourse, some cancer patients). For those who not agreed of this vid (you might probably not be able to do like Kristian did) , you can do a different way to show your love for eithe your wife/husband/family/partner, its just need a courage to do so. For Kristian's Family, be strong and Happy Birthday to Racheal~!
