If you like the idea of highlights but don't want to commit to a permanent change then clip-in extensions could be the ideal answer to your hair woes.

Glee actress Lea Michele used clip-ins to give her hair copper highlights at the 2010 Emmy Awards.

Hair stylist Mark Townsend told fashion website Stylelist.com that the temporary look was ideal for giving hair a summery vibe.

"The Emmys happen at end of summer where everyone is tan and their hair is lighter. Lea's hair is naturally very dark brown, so we went really light with a golden copper hue for the highlights."

To try the look yourself Townsend recommends buying some clip-in hair extensions a few tones lighter than your natural colour.

To get sun-kissed highlights clip half of your hair up and insert the clips randomly around the head.

Unclip the top section of the hair and allow the top layers to spill over the bottom half.
