Nicole Richie doesn't know how to put on makeup.

The stunning 30-year-old always looks perfectly preened, but insists she's hopeless when it comes to her beauty routine.

The The House of Harlow 1960 creative director prefers to go au naturale on her days off and enlists the help of an expert when it comes to red carpet events.

"I actually don't know how to put on makeup - at all," she revealed in an interview with "I have to get it done every time I want to wear makeup. I do not know how to wear it at all. It's so bad."

Richie doesn't spend much money on cosmetics. The beauty prefers to stay natural with a few basic products.

"I don't even own [makeup]," she added. "I only own under-eye concealer, Maybelline mascara, and an eyelash curler."

Richie, who has two children with husband Joel Madden, also has a relaxed approach to maternity wear.

She told OK! magazine mothers-to-be should wear what they feel most relaxed in and not restrict their style choices.

"I would say to just wear what you are comfortable in and there are no rules. It really just depends on how you feel," she said.

"With my daughter, I was wearing five-inch heels until I gave birth to her and with my son, I wasn't."

Richie believes that expressing individual style is a confidence booster for expectant mothers. The stunning star urges pregnant women to embrace their ever-changing figures.

"Go with what you are comfortable in and go with what makes you feel good about yourself," she added.

Richie and Jessica Simpson are mentors on new reality TV series Fashion Star. The fashionistas have become great friends and Richie is excited about Simpson's entry into motherhood.

Although she is happy to provide fashion advice, Richie won't offer Simpson parenting tips.

"[Simpson] doesn't need my advice," Richie gushed. "[She's going to be] a great mom."
