Spanish stylist cuts hair with swords and fire

Cutting Hair with Swords

Ditch the scissors and get your hair cut with swords by the real-life Edward Scissorhands.

All we're saying is that if this turns out to be fake, we won't be entirely surprised.

Let's suspend our disbelief for a moment though, and spend some time with Spanish hairdresser Alberto Olmedo, who cuts hair with fire, swords and finger blades rather than scissors.

Olmedo, who owns his own salon in Madrid, appeared in a video for AJ+, which has had over 68 million views on Facebook.

Our first concern is about the smell of burning hair. If you're not familiar, count yourself lucky - it's best described as acrid.

Olmedo uses a blowtorch that reaches 1300 degrees Celsius. Let's hope his salon is well-ventilated.

He told AJ+ he uses these unconventional methods because they give a more symmetrical result.

Honestly this doesn't look very precise to us.

Honestly this doesn't look very precise to us.

"Hairdressers usually cut one side, and then the other... one side is always a bit different from the other, even if it is only a little bit.

"The only way to do it in an exact mathematical way is to cut both sides simultaneously."

And then he goes in on a woman's hair with two swords.

Let's hope any flammable hair products are well out of the way.

"I'm practically using primitive tools. It's a bit medieval," Olmedo told AJ+.

"Sometimes you have to use a bit of your imagination to get positive results."

That's likely true, but we're going to stick with our less theatrical, more reliable hairdressers.
