In my beauty bag: Brodie Proykova of Frenchie & Co hair and beauty salon
With two very successful hair and beauty salons to her name, Brodie Proykova of Auckland's Frenchie & Co shows no sign of slowing down. She took the time to chat to use about her beauty philosophy.
I love the fresh awake feeling you get after cleansing your skin so I use Lancome Creme-Mousse Cleanser morning and night. I use Trilogy Rosehip Oil on my face and neck every evening, but during the day it's Lancome Hydra-Zen moisturiser, then to set my makeup I use my absolute fave - Coola Make-up Setting Spray SPF 30.
I have always been such a sun baby and I will admit I was terrible a few years back, but now I religiously apply it to my babies and myself wherever we go! The entire range from Coola is amazing It's organic and free of all the nasties known to be in many other sunscreens.
I like facials but I do find myself thinking of all the things I need to do! I prefer a quick micro-dermabrasion or mild peel to help make my skin look and feel smooth. I also swear it makes your makeup wear that much nicer too. I normally go to my local Caci clinic.
My secret to good skin is simple - loads of water, a good facial oil, and always, always removing your makeup at night, even if it's been a big one!
I have been obsessed with makeup since I was a little girl and still am!
I use Lancome Teint Visionnare as my foundation or MAC BB cream if I want less coverage. I'm a bit of a MAC girl so almost all of my products are MAC except my French Luxe brow balm which is from my own line launching November. I also love a deep matte lip with with very little makeup but loads of black mascara, and perfectly groomed brows! Very Drew Barrymore circa 1989!
In my handbag you will always fine Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, about five MAC lipsticks and a mini Chanel perfume.
In the weekend I don't wear any makeup unless I'm in the salons.
We stock some incredible products in our salons so I'm spoilt for choice when it comes to what I use on my hair. My fave at the minute is Davines Your Hair Assistant shampoo, conditioner and blow wave primer. It extends the life of your blow dry and smells absolutely gorgeous every time your hair moves. I also always use a finishing oil like Wella's Luxe Oil to smooth mids to ends.
When it comes to repairing damage you can not go past an Olaplex treatment which goes a long way in repairing the broken bonds in your hair caused by colouring or heat styling.
I do colour my hair but generally use a demi permanent unless I am going for a major change, I have my hair blow waved every two to three days depending on time and prefer wearing it sleek and straight every day.
In terms of hot tools I use both Ghd curling wand and straightening stylers.
We offer gel nails in our salons so I get a manicure every two weeks.
I love short black or nude nails and baby pink polish for toes.
I am not a fan of nail art - I like simple and clean.
FRAGRANCE & BODY
I love perfume and normally have about 10 on the go! I love exotic scents that have anything like jasmin, orchid or gardenia, at the moment I'm loving Versace Crystal Noir and Bvlgari Jasmin Noir.
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle is always on rotation with me… anything Chanel is timeless and smells incredible.
I absolutely love Sanceuticals pH Perfect Body Wash - it smells amazing and it's great for your skin.
My beauty philosophy is less is more… unless I have a big event to go to then I prefer ultra glam!!
For travel, I always drink loads of water and use the Evian water spritz to keep my skin hydrated while flying and only wear a BB cream and mascara instead of a full face of makeup.
I get loads of inspiration for techniques and products from Instagram.
Icon? Controversial but I love how Kim Kardashian has reinvented her look, she is open to trying different makeup styles but as of late she has dialled back her overdone look by focussing on good skin, beautiful brows and lush lashes.
I can't live without my Lancome Mascara
My quick beauty fix is using a facial scrub before applying your makeup - I use Cup O Coffee from Lush.
Past beauty blunders would have to be: thin eyebrows, too much white pearl eye shadow under the brow line, and using bronzer without blending!
My beauty bugbear is bad brows! They can totally detract from a gorgeous face. We measure and tint brows to perfectly frame the face and will be offering brow feathering from November so watch this space.
