PREP FACTOR Minimal. My makeup artist, Natalie Halliday, asked a few questions about my usual skin and makeup routine and removed the makeup I had on so we could start with a fresh face.

OUR EXPERIENCE It's all about what you want to get out of it. For me, it was tackling the basics of highlighting and contouring so I can get that J-Lo glow, and how to nail a perfect cat's eye.

We started by prepping the skin, followed by foundation and powder before moving on to highlights and contouring. Then we tackled brows and eyes, and finished with lips, with Natalie explaining every product, brush choice and technique along the way.

PAIN FACTOR  Zero.

PLEASURE FACTOR  I walked out of there looking and feeling like a million bucks. And I was keen to give her tips a try at home.

OUR VERDICT  Totally worth it for anyone who wants to learn the basics or tackle a new technique.

BOOK IT IN IF You're planning to buy a few MAC products anyway, since the lesson fee is redeemable on products.

BUT KEEP IN MIND It's a lot to learn in an hour and a half. You'll get a face chart and detailed product info, but you'll also need to put in a bit of practice at home (I'm still working on my cat's eye).

EXPECT TO PAY $150 for a 90-minute lesson.

YOU CAN VISIT Any MAC store or counter.
