This week we tried: LED light therapy facial treatment
WE TRIED Light Lounge LED light therapy facial treatment
WE WENT TO The Facialist, City Works Depot, Auckland
WHAT IT'S FOR Non-invasive skin rejuvenation, anti-ageing and sun damage. According to The Facialist's website it promises to repair and rejuvenate the skin, reduce lines and wrinkles, boost collagen production, improve skin tone and texture, heals wounds faster, treats acne, dermatitis, eczema and rosacea and encourages skin's production of hyaluronic acid (hydration boosting).
SEAL OF APPROVAL Katy Perry, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Hudson, Kelly Rowland and the Kardashians are all known to regularly use LED light therapy.
* This week we tried: Teeth whitening
* This week we tried: Keratin smoothing treatment
* This week we tried: Bespoke facial
PREP FACTOR Nothing - on arrival you're left to cream cleanse your skin so it's all clear to receive maximum benefit.
OUR EXPERIENCE It has my vote! Not only was it fast and neither invasive or messy, it was truly relaxing and I left feeling glowing and energised, inside and out.
After cleansing your skin, you settle into a comfy chair, put your feet up, close your eyes and totally relax for 20 minutes while the LED panels do their thing.
PAIN FACTOR Definitely no pain. Your eyes may take a moment to adjust to the very bright light even through closed lids, but after that it's just lovely and warm, something like lying on a tropical beach...
PLEASURE FACTOR As above, it's a bit like taking a mini break on the beach but just for your face and without the evil UV rays. Overall it was just a lovely experience, everything felt clean, fresh, restful and professional.
OUR VERDICT I genuinely felt great and that I could see a change in my skin straight away - a bit of radiance and smoothness, but I was surprised to also feel more energetic and happy.
BOOK IT IN IF You're wanting an immediate pep up for your skin and your mood.
BUT KEEP IN MIND It's most effective with regular use - I felt like the effects from just one initial session probably only lasted about 24 hours, but skin therapist Ashleigh recommends going as often as possible as the benefits grow with each go.
EXPECT TO PAY $75 for a one-off session or $500 for ten sessions to be used within six months. You can also sign up for monthly memberships starting at $225. They're currently running an introductory offer for three sessions at $99, to be used in a two-week period.
YOU CAN VISIT The Facialist, located in Auckland's CityWorks Depot, or find out more online here.
