Love, by its very definition, requires a degree of faithfulness. When it comes to beauty, however, fidelity can be vastly overrated. Unless you’re particularly fond of ruts, some change is essential. To help you mix it up, here are some of beauty’s most desirable, adorable and transformative offerings. They’ll keep you looking and feeling your best come February 14, and far beyond.

Jo Malone Red Roses Cologne, $215/100ml
Think of this as the bunch of flowers that just keeps on giving. Dubbed the “essence of modern romance”, it’s made from a blend of seven different roses mixed in with crushed violet leaves and a touch of citrus. Sheer, and not cloying or talc-like as some rose fragrances can be, it smells like a freshly cut bouquet. It also has staying power; spray it on before bed and you can be guaranteed you’ll wake up 10 hours later smelling – well – of roses.

This Works Perfect Cleavage Firming Lotion, $109
There’s no chance this will give you perfect cleavage if nature didn’t. But it’s a truly special moisturiser, and an award-winning cult product. Lightly scented, it’s packed with essential natural oils and plant extracts to help minimise lines and wrinkles, and leaves the skin glowing, thanks to a very fine shimmer particle.

Dr Hauschka Moor Lavender Calming Bath Essence, $49

The Victorians saw lavender as a symbol for devotion. Slip into a bath drizzled with this and feel yourself transforming from stressed-out to loved-up. With lavender, moor extract (actually peat moss, but that doesn’t sound quite as romantic) and oils like jojoba and avocado, this Sumptuous, milky essence helps moisturise while it relaxes.

Sundari Gulkand Soy Candle, $92
One of the sexiest scents you could ever hope to inhale, this boutique candle has a floral base with just a suggestion of sweetness. To achieve it, rose petals are spun with honey and sugar and left to mature for a month or so. The result is creamy, sophisticated and just a little bit exotic.

Nars Body Glow, $118
The subtitle to this should be ‘How to look good naked’. Immediately absorbed into the skin, it not only soothes and moisturises but also leaves behind a natural shimmery glow which helps even out the skintone and camouflage imperfections. Made with monoi de Tahiti oil, a pure coconut extract infused with tiare flower, it smells almost edible.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm, $44
Whether your need for this is greater before V Day (to soften your pout) or after, a good balm is a useful product to keep on hand. Not only will this potent lip-smoother soften and protect the lips – it contains shea butter as well as replenishing vitamin E – it also provides a soft, clean-looking sheen, which can be worn solo or over blotted-down lipstick. Team it with Mecca’s Kissable Lips Smoothing Lip Exfoliant, $27, and your mouth will feel a million dollars.

Clarins Limited Edition Graphic Expression Face & Blush Powder, $76
A beautiful blend of blusher and bronzer, this illuminates the skin, making you look healthier, fresher and generally peppier. It has a silky fine texture and works a treat at playing up cheekbones and collarbones – you can even give your legs a sexy sheen by brushing a little in a line from foot to knee. You’ll have to put it on your wish-list, though. It’s on counter towards the
end of the month.

Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in Dedicace, $59
As if a rosy pink Chanel lipstick wasn’t romantic enough, ‘dedicace’ translates roughly as ‘dedication’. It’s certainly a shade worth pledging allegiance to. From Chanel’s latest collection, this is a fresh bluish-pink that will add a modern perkiness to your pucker.

La Mer The Body Refiner, $350
Okay. So it’s kind of premium. But it does contain 1.75 carats of pure diamond particles to polish the skin and give it a healthy radiance. Dust off the wallet (yours or someone else’s) and consider a splurge.

Bobbi Brown extra hand Cream, $50
Bobbi Brown rarely gets it wrong, and this hand cream is no exception. A blend of geranium, grapefruit, rosemary, chamomile and bitter orange essential oils, it leaves hands feeling soft, feminine and lightly scented with citrus.

Kerastase Powder Bluff, $44
Dry shampoo might not sound like the most romantic of products but it sure is handy when you wake up the morning after with bad bed hair. A blast or two of this will have you looking your best in a flash (and won’t leave any tell-tale white residue behind).

In the mood
What Kai Vinson doesn’t know about classically beautiful makeup could be written on the back of a (lipstick) box. Bobbi Brown’s director of artistry and education for Asia Pacific, Vinson believes that makeup doesn’t have to be difficult or fussy to look great.

“For makeup that’s romantic, I think a soft smudged eyeliner is always a bit sexy. Take a long-wearing pencil and use a brush to defuse the colour along the lash. Pink is always romantic on lips and cheeks – it’s the colour of femininity.

''Pinks come in all depths from pale so subtle to bright and bold. If you’re not a pink fan, try a sheer pink gloss over a nude lip. It gives you the feeling of pink but isn’t as strong.”
