Want glowing skin? Make sure you clean it properly.

While it may seem like an arduous chore, it's an essential if you want your skin to looks its best. Here are some of the best ways to get a thorough cleanse.

CLEANSING TOWELS

New to the cleansing world comes these clever towels created using a very fine weave of fabric that can banish all signs of makeup and build up by just adding water.

I was dubious at first, but now I use mine daily. It's fast, efficient and cleanses like a pro. While it claims you only need to add water, I also like to team this with a cleansing milk to give my skin an extra hit.

Your cleaning kit: Dermalogica PreCleanse Balm, $75; Cutisonic Sonic facial cleanser and makeup applicator, $125; Essano Rosehip Gentle Cleansing facial wipes, $9; QVS natural cleansing sponges, $8; and Take It Off makeup remover towel, $20.

DOUBLE CLEANSE

The whole notion of double cleansing was brought to the fore by Dermalogica with the launch of their PreCleanse Oil and more recent balm version. The whole idea behind a double cleanse is to give your skin a deep but not damaging cleanse.

The first cleanse works to rid your skin of impurities such as makeup, grime from pollution, excess oils and sunscreen. Once this is off the skin, a second cleanse is actually able to get through to do the job it's meant to do – clean the skin.

TOWELETTES

While I don't often reach for makeup wipes, they do have their place. If it were the decision between using a wipe and not cleansing, I would always recommend the former.

They are great for travel and those by brands like Essano also offer you a natural option. I like to use one towelette to get all my makeup off, before reaching for a second to get a deeper cleanse in.

The Cutisonic Sonic facial cleanser and makeup applicator has just made cleansing too simple. Complete with removable, washable pads, this sonic cleansing brush is compact, practical and cleanses skin to perfection.

Pop your cleanser on and then move this tool around your face to get a deep cleanse.

CLEANSING SPONGES

You can't go past cleansing sponges for their ability to clean and also exfoliate your skin. When using these, run some water into your sink before smoothing your cleanser onto damp skin then use your sponge (I like to use one in each hand) to cleanse and buff your skin. Rinse to remove the grime and then go back in – your skin will feel amazing afterwards.
