FACE OF BEAUTY: Morrinsville teen Lydia Smit will compete in the Face of Beauty International final in Taiwan in September, having won the New Zealand title on May 10.

At just 16, Morrinsville girl Lydia Smit has been crowned the winner of Face of Beauty International New Zealand and will make her way to Taiwan for the final.

The teen took out the national competition in Papakura on May 10. She also won the swimwear section.

It was her first time in the competition, which she entered because a clash with a netball tournament in Australia meant she will miss out on Miss Teen NZ.

"It's a bit of fun and this one included a talent."

For her talent she sang Stay by Rihanna and finished in the top five. The Taiwan competition runs from September 18 through to October 6 and will be judged on several categories including daywear, swimwear, evening wear, talent and a national-themed costume.

Leading up to the competition, she will do several preparation workshops in Auckland and think of a new song for her talent.

"My biggest fear is messing up my talking, you don't have to say a whole lot but you don't want it to sound super-rehearsed."

Previously, Smit's biggest success was winning Miss Pauanui 2014 in January.

She was also third in Miss Teen Hamilton last year.

Smit is in year 12 at Morrinsville College and plans to stay another year, but intends to continue with modelling.

Her cousin, Hannah Moulden, from Hamilton, is the reigning Miss Teen NZ and was crowned Miss Whangamata this year.
