This week we're obsessed with
NYREE MCFARLANE & SARAH MACKENZIE
AN ACTUAL MAKEUP FREE SELFIE: Most celeb #nofilter #nomakeup Instagrams look more made up than we do when dolled up for a big night ('oh, no, sorry, I meant no makeup EXCEPT for my false lashes, nude lipstick, touch of shadow and mountains of concealer') ... but one A-lister has finally posted a slap-free snap we can get on board with. Zooey Deschanel looks genuinely bleary-eyed and haphazard ... as most humans do just after they've rolled out of bed ... and we love her for sharing an actually real moment with the world rather than a carefully-choreographed, artfully-shot one (*ahem* Beygency *ahem* Kim).
THIS BODY OIL: We weren't convinced on body oils ... until we started using them, and this Temple Tonic beauty is 'the best we've ever had'. First things first, the May Chang, Mandarin & Goji Berry option smells citrus fresh (without being toilet cleaner-like). Secondly, oil is so much easier - and more luxurious-feeling - to apply than cream, and Temple Tonic's blend of oils is like a study in antioxidants and vitamins: sunflower oil, grape seed, macadamia nut, pomegranate seed and rosehip. We have so many half-finished bottles of moisturisers that we look like hoarders ... but, three months of almost daily use and we've used this all up - that's really the ultimate compliment. $38 at OhNatural.co.nz
THIS DRAG LOOK: Andrew Garfield gets into drag and goes to a bar that looks like somewhere the creepy guys from True Detective would hang. Why? Well for the latest Arcade Fire video. Some observations ... 1) While clearly a homage to Gwen Stacy, Garfield actually looks like Emma Watson when done up like a lady. 2) The bit where he dances with abandon in his denim cut offs is amazing. Garf' gives Beyonce a run for her money. 3) He's just shot up in our estimations - real men are secure enough to get draggy on it every now and then. Love him. Check it out.
THIS CAT-LIKE HUSKY: Tao Tao (which means mischievous in Chinese) is a husky/malamute who was raised with cats and ergo acts like a cat. Her new human friend posted pictures of her on Reddit, et voila, an internet sensation is born. Check her out with her legs all tucked under like a tabby, too cute! Apparently she's almost completely mute and her favourite way to pass the day is to lie, unmoving, in one spot and stare at people all Judge Judy-like. Here are more snaps of her!
THESE CUSTOM-MADE DRESSES: You've all heard of Ruby's sister label Liam, but did you know the spin-off brand now has a line of customisable, made-to-measure dresses and separates? We fell in love with a couple of the stunning creations during the label's show at Wellington Fashion Week and the only thing holding us back from designing and ordering our own right now is an empty diary. These babies deserve to be shown off, so whether you're prepping for a ball, a milestone birthday or a winter wedding, get your creative hat on and check them out. Prices for the collection start at $500 and each unique piece takes approximately eight weeks to create. Happy shopping!
THIS PALETTE: Most eye palettes have about two colours in them that we use (we have a palette graveyard basket that's full of half used ones with the limes and royal blues left over) but with the new Smashbox Full Exposure we actually like every single shade. That said, we have almost already run out of the champagne shimmer colour (top middle) as it's probably the nicest light shimmer shade we've ever come across. This palette also comes with a handy guide on eye shapes and how you should use the colours based on whether you're an 'almond' or 'round', etc. We personally have just been all overthis daytime look from YouTuber Carli Bybel (which may explain why we've already used up most of the champagne). $129 from Smashbox stockists.
