Only the placenta from New Zealand sheep is good enough to rub into the face of Victoria Beckham.

It has been reported Posh Spice is dishing out up to £320 (NZD$670) for regular 90-minute facials, which involve shining a red LED light on the face to open the pores, before an afterbirth gel sprinkled with gold flakes is spread on, British tabloid The Sun has reported.

Beckham, 38, is a regular visitor to Beverly Hills specialist Dr Harold Lancer, who also treats Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez.

Lancer said he only used placenta from New Zealand sheep in his facials because they had been "untouched by the  modern world".

"They have no impurities in their system. The stem cells we harvest are amniotic cells, which means no harm is caused to the animals," he said.

"The stem cells are preserved because they are full of rich nutrients that fight free-radical damage to the skin and make it more radiant."

The process sees stem cells extracted, frozen and mixed in gel.

The product is said to have come from Waipukurau company Agri-Labs, which exports animal placenta wholesale throughout the world.
